What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles at precise points on the body's surface to treat specific health problems. The ancient Chinese believed that there is a universal life energy called "Qi" present in every living creature. This energy is said to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways that are called meridians. As long as this energy flows freely throughout the meridians, health is maintained, but once the flow of energy is blocked, the system is disrupted and pain and illness occur. Acupuncture works to balance and restore normal functions by stimulating certain points on the meridians in order to free up the energy. Acupuncture has been in practice for 5000 years. It has been around so long because it works!

Does it hurt?

Usually not. You may feel nothing, pressure, a dull sensation, heaviness or tingling. If you experience any discomfort, it is usually mild. We use sterile single use disposable needles.

How many treatments will I need?

That depends on the duration, severity and nature of your condition. You may only need a single treatment for an acute condition. A series of five to fifteen treatments may resolve many chronic problems. Some degenerative conditions may require many treatments over time. Some people find it useful to get regular monthly tune-ups to maintain and enhance their health and well-being.

Does my health insurance cover Acupuncture?

Most health insurers in Washington State cover Acupuncture in their medical benefits package. Contact your plan directly to verify coverage.

What kind of conditions does Acupuncture treat?

The World Health Organization recognizes the ability of Acupuncture to treat over 200 clinical disorders, including neck and back pain, sciatica, knee pain, alcohol, tobacco and drug dependency, asthma and other respiratory disorders, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, gastrointestinal disorders, gynecological disorders, PMS, fatigue, insomnia, pregnancy-related disorders (morning sickness, hypertension, breech presentation, etc.), stress, tension.

What is Acutonics?

Acutonics is a healing system uniting the energetics of Acupuncture with sound. Precision-calibrated tuning forks are applied to Acupuncture points on the body. The sound waves activate the points, enhancing the flow of Qi and blood throughout the body. This is a non-invasive, needle-free way of treating the body.
